All You Need to Know

  • Are you accepting new patients?

Yes, we welcome new patients from birth until 21 years of age.
  • How do we contact the doctor after hours?

After hours, please call our office at 609-383-3800 and you will be directed to our professional triage nurses. These highly trained nurses respond to calls using nationally recognized medical protocols which have been reviewed and approved by our providers. One of our providers is always "on-call" and provide any necessary support to our nurse triage team.

IN THE EVENT OF A LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCY, CALL 911.

  • May I request a specific pediatrician for my visit?

Every effort is made to arrange your child's well visits and follow up visits with the practitioner of your choice. When your child is ill, he or she may be cared for by any one of our providers.
  • My child needs to see a specialist. What do I do?

Should your child require an appointment with a specialist, we will provide you with the necessary instructions to make the appointment. To properly complete the referral, we kindly request that you give our staff 5 business days’ notice prior to your child’s scheduled appointment.
  • When will I receive lab or test results?

You can obtain your test results on the Patient Portal. For any abnormal labs or radiological studies, one of our providers will promptly call you with the results as soon as they are received by our office.
  • Who can I talk to if I have a question about my child?

We have always felt that any worried caregiver that calls our office with questions or concerns should be provided a same day appointment for the child to receive a proper evaluation and plan of care. If it is necessary for you to speak with one of our providers during office hours, our staff will gladly take a message and the provider will make every effort to return your call the same day, either between patients or at the end of the day.
  • Do you accept my health insurance plan?

Advocare participates with most major insurance plans. CLICK HERE to review a list of all insurances we accept.

As participation varies by region, specialty, and physician, we recommend that you contact either our office or your insurance company representative to verify that your insurance plan is accepted.
  • Does your practice support breastfeeding mothers?

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding babies until the age of 2. Breastfeeding helps defend children against infections, allergies, and several chronic conditions. While the experts believe that breast milk is the best nutritional choice for infants, we recognize that breastfeeding may not be possible or wanted by all mothers and infants. In these families, an iron-fortified formula is an excellent alternative and we will gladly provide you education and guidance on choosing from the many available formulas.

  • How do I obtain a prescription refill?

Feel free to message our staff through the patient portal. You may also call our main office number and follow the prompts for our medication refill telephone line. Please leave a detailed message and allow 3 business days for all routine prescription refills to be sent to the pharmacy. For prescriptions that require prior authorization from your insurance company, please plan ahead to allow at least 5 days for the refill approval to be received by our office.
  • I just gave birth. When should I schedule my baby's first doctor visit?

Congratulation on the arrival of your little one!

We encourage you to call as soon as possible for the neonate to receive their first appointment within 3 days after birth. We leave dedicated openings for newborns in our daily schedule to allow time to provide all caregivers with comprehensive guidance and support to ensure the health and well-being of your newest family member.
  • What days are you open?

Our office is open Monday through Friday and Saturday for limited hours. Please click here to see all the office hours.

  • What immunizations will my child receive?

Please visit our Immunizations page for further information.
  • How do you manage teenage issues?

As your child approaches adolescence and young adulthood, we would like to partner with you to make sure your child is healthy and safe. We will be talking to your teen about all aspects of their health, including pubertal changes. We will also be having discussions with your teen about mental health, drinking, smoking, drugs, sexual orientation, and sexual behavior.

We would like you to be present for all of your child’s health visits. This will allow us to obtain any pertinent medical history from you, and to get your consent for any vaccinations, blood work, or other testing. However, as children mature into adolescence, it is important that they have another safe place to talk to us in private about concerns that arise as they grow into adults. This also helps them build trusting relationships with their providers. Thus, we request that you remain in the waiting room during this part of your child’s visit and physical exam.

While we always encourage our patients to share concerns with their parents, it is important that teens know that they have another safe place to talk about these issues. We tell children that we keep everything they tell us strictly confidential. We will only disclose a confidence if we feel that your child is in grave danger. We hope you understand that this allows children to speak freely with their health care providers.

Please let us know any of your concerns. As always, we look forward to helping to keep your child healthy and safe.
